Watching the match, it came into my memory another match during last year’s Roland Garros tournament in Paris. Then, on a secondary court, the then unknown Sloane Stephens was surprisingly beating Bethany Mattek-Sands while, next to me, "father" Williams was watching too. Mr. Williams didn’t wait for the match to end, leaving the court not before, by gesture, showing how much impressed he was by the eighteen years old girl’s performance.
He may remember now that scene...
Miss Sloane may later on confirm or not. But anytime later - doesn’t matter her further career path - she may say - as not many people are able to - with justified pride that she came once to Melbourne with the intention to "buy a pair of shoes" (as she declared in her interview by Barbara Schett) and finally she got as much money to afford a house!
Good luck, Miss Sloane! If any tournament’s edition should bear a name, this one would bear yours!
